historically informative. Each assists in locating dining establishments.
Such research is difficult at best, but to make it more so, this type of
book typically goes out of print in a short period of time. In all

by Richard J. S. Gutman
First edition released in 1993, then out of print for a few years.
This edition came out in November 2000. The book is thought of as the "cornerstone of
any roadside fan's book collection." Readers say it has a "perfect balance
between individual diner stories, photos, and history, and great attention to detail which
bespeaks a real love of the subject". The 1993 edition (nearly identical to this
current edition) "has been an unofficial bible for diner aficionados for the last
